How do I post a picture?

Please explain how I transfer a picture of Caravaggio's "The Supper at Emmaus" from the National Gallery website to the Caravaggio thread in the ATU Paintings and Photography section.

My inability to do this sort of thing usually doesn't bother me at all, but in a section concerned explicity with visual images I feel like a complete dunderhead.

There's 2 ways Eddie.

Step 1 : The same for both
Go to google or your favourite search engine and do a picture search for the image you are looking for.
When you find it, open it and copy the adress to it - this will usually end with .jpg

Step 2 A
While creating a post, click on the 'image' button - the button which shows a picture in the upper right corner, 2 buttons left of the film-roll. Paste the adress to the picture into the little box that appears and the image will be inserted automatically into your message.

When I mix images and texts, the lay-out usually gets messed up when I insert pictures this way.
So that why I use:

Step 2 B
In the message field type: [i m g]LINK TO IMAGE[/i m g] - but write img instead of i m g.
When you enter your post, the picture will appear.

I know how to post a picture, but I'm unable to place it anywhere than at the top of a post. How do I place it below text? Also, when I posted 2 photos the other day (of Hopper paintings) they ended up side by side.

It automatically goes to the bottom of the text for me. Can't you just copy/past the image and put it where ever you want? Works for me...

If I try to type in the text first, leave the cursor where I want the photo to go, then do the image box rigmarole, the photo still parks itself before the text, at the top. I'm cursored.

I tried this, but with no success. I bypassed the Image box, and typed everything in here, but nada. I've no doubt misunderstood your cunning modus operandi.

just a little clarification on what Andy said......

you find the picture that you want on the website, you right click on the picture - a drop down menu will come up - you click on 'properties' when that opens it will have 'location' you copy the URL (highlight it and click control C to copy) of that which usually ends with .jpg......

you go to the post you want to put the picture in you type the [img] and then control V to paste the URL and then type [/ img] with no space.....these [img] [quote] etc are hyperlink tags so they're like HTML....which means hypertext markup language........

I just checked the National Gallery website, and you can't hotlink from their site, so I looked at the Wikipedia website, and I got this

try right-clicking on one of these pictures and putting it in the thread you wanted to do following the instructions I gave you....

one minute all i have is the box with the red cross in it and then the next minute it works, then it goes back to the cross.

the picture showed on the thread for a minute and then it went away.
