| ... has been arrested entering Switzerland under a 1978 US arrest warrant. Sure took them a while. |

| Apparently there is an outcry over his arrest. Why? |

| Apparently drugging and raping a 13 year old girl is more socially acceptable in France than the U.S. Though there was significant misconduct on the part of the judge of the original trial. (he was a media-obsessed L.A. schlub) _________________ The problem in defense is how far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without.

| I'm a little on the fence about Roman Polanksi. Obviously what he did to that girl was beyond wrong and he does need to be punished. However, I also feel a lot sympathy towards him: he's a Holocaust survivor, his mother died in Auschwitz, and his wife was brutally slaughtered. He's lived such a miserable life (albeit quite a successful one, but horribly miserable nonetheless). Can you really blame the man for being so messed up? Not many are strong enough to survive the horrors he's been through. And I applaud him for that. And I think that escaping to France was a very smart, yet cowardly, move on his part. The man is not an idiot and as bad it sounds, I was kinda rooting for him to never get caught - anyone who can hide in plain sight like that for 30 or so years deserves a little positive recognition I think. And (based on interviews and other things I've seen), he seems like a very sweet and likeable guy overall...but it doesn't change the fact that what he did was wrong, he knew it was wrong, and he did it anyway. And yes, it's about time he faced the consequences. But I honestly NEVER thought it would happen. He let his guard down and he got caught. I never suspected he would. |

| It's a shame he didn't serve his time when he was meant to, rather than when he was an old man. His fault. One of the best movies I've ever seen: |

| Polanski didn't flee until it was clear he wouldn't receive a fair trial and the judge reneged on his earlier agreement with Polanski. I'm not on the fence about Polanski. He is what he is- a great artist, a Holocaust and Charlie Manson survivor and a forcible sodomizer of drugged 13 year old girls. A man can be many things. _________________ The problem in defense is how far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without.
