Straight to Hell is a 1987 action-comedy film directed by Alex Cox, featuring Sy Richardson, The Clash frontman Joe Strummer (after whose song the film is named), Courtney Love, Dick Rude, Dennis Hopper, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello, Xander Berkeley, Kathy Burke, Jim Jarmusch, Edward Tudor-Pole, Miguel Sandoval, Jennifer Balgobin, and members of The Pogues, Amazulu and The Circle Jerks. Its tagline is: "A story of blood, money, guns, coffee, and sexual tension."

Often viewed as a parody of Spaghetti Westerns, it is really more of an homage. While the film received almost no positive reviews, it has (like several other of Cox's films) achieved a minor cult status, largely due to its cast of musicians, many of whom have cult followings of their own. A soundtrack has been released.

Who's seen it?

Not me, but I'd certainly watch any movie with that kind of line-up.

I tried to watch Straight to Hell in 2002. I didn't think much of it.

Alex Cox seems like a bit of a failure, from what I've seen. He could have directed FEAR AND LOATHING, but dropped out. He's gotta regret that one.

HIs last real movie was Walker in 1987, written by Rudy Wurlitzer of Pat G and B the K. "His scenes have no shape, his characters are stick figures, the wit is undergraduate and his soggy set pieces of slow-motion carnage are third-rate Peckinpah imitations." - Newsweek

I'm sure he's happy taping introductions for Sergio Corbucci DVDs and making microfeatures for youtube.

Repo Man seems to have quite a following. Which is The Plugz'z 2nd best work, after their performance on Letterman, of course.

He seems like a nice fellow. Too nice and Marxist for Hollywood, land of Cut-Throat Jewery and Hungry Sharks. Apparently his family spent all their money on Alex's education, so the poor boy couldn't get any much needed dental work.

Sid and Nancy is pretty crap.

Although I remember the kissing with rubbish falling was a nice touch.
