I sort of found this band by accident. I recently went through my parents music collection and found 'Today' and 'On Fire' gave them a listen and I liked what I heard. I was slightly perplexed as to why it turned up among their Gordon Lightfoot and Carly Simon, but it turns out that they used to live in the same area of Massachusetts as they're from and that one of Dad's collegues was into them and gave him the records. Pretty cool, huh?

First of all, what a great band name! I doubt I'll ever end up in a band, as I lack any musical talent, but if I did I would like to think it would have a simularly weirdly cool name.

Anyway, they are a pretty cool Canadian band. They've released 5 LP's and 1 EP. I haven't listened to all their stuff as this sort of thing is quite hard to come by in Oxford. Their music is sometimes a bit bleak, but great nontheless. Damn, I'm terrible at expressing my thoughts on music. They're just really ...

Warren Peace (1993) "****" - Rolling Stone

Hailing from Warren, Pa., James Reilly and Reese Campbell craft folk rock so fine that their quartet's name seems less playful hubris than fact. The New Costellos, however, might be more apt; their tunes takes on a melodic buoyancy that recalls Elvis' pop rather than Bob's blues. But their themes – Cold War paranoia ("Sleeping With the Missiles"), the pathos of history ("Old Overcoat") – marks them as originals. Intricate narratives poetically ...

This is strong praise, I know, especially for a band that remains painfully obscure. But if we separate pop from jazz (if not, Wes Montgomery wins) then, for the last half-century or so, the only contender if The Jackson Five, but nobody else gets within a day’s drive when it comes ...
