I don't care what he calls himself, nor what anyone else calls him.

I see that he's had loads of big hit records in the US, but just a handful of very minor hits in the UK. That's probably why I don't know any of them.

Why on earth would a singer want three names?

My favorite is John Mellencamp. His original name.

I had never heard of it. It was his first hit in the US of A way back in the ancient days of 1979. It was not a hit in the UK. He had 4 'hits' in the UK, the biggest being 'Jack and Diane' which reached No 25 in 1982, and a few albums in the Top 30 charts, the biggest being 'Big Daddy' and 'The Best That I Could Do' which both reached No. 25. I've never heard any of them, and until I looked at the book, I'd never heard of any of them.

Thank you kindly, John, for posting that. I do recall that record now. I rather liked it at the time, I think. A very 1970s rock sound, to these ears. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Remember when Prince was always changing his name I think he John Cougar was so bad that he believed if he changed his name people would think Oh a new artist lets see what hes got.....He did catch a model and has beautiful children but thats about all I know Oh and he had a Heart attack and had to quit smoking....
