| It is a gimmick. Can't fault anyone for that. Although less effective and substantially more.....messy? Maybe with practice you could achieve tone control but why would you want to? And her bicep looks freaky. _________________ This isn't the 'so called' Warbleshinny Mastadon. Over

| The "tromba marina," which means fog horn, even though it isn't a horn. No frets, and the string is never pressed to the finger board. And yet, the fundamental vibrating mode of the string is never used--it would be too low for any written music. The notes played are all harmonics, from the 2nd harmonic upwards. _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| Leo Theremin was a Russian engineer and inventor, who made his way to the US in the 1920s, and invented the first electronic instrument--called the Theremin. In 1938 he went back to Russia, where they put him into a special prison for scientists, to work on defense projects. You play the instrument without ever touching it--you just wave your hands in front of the antennae: You hear it in many old horror movie and sci-fi movie soundtracks, like "The Day The Earth Stood Still." Some people still play it, and some of the players are even nice-looking: _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| btw--Lidia Kavina is Leon Theremin's grand niece. Tim Burton wanted to bring her over to the US to be in the movie "Ed Wood" with Johnnie Depp--so that she and Ed Wood could be shown recording a soundtrack for "Plan 9 From Outer Space." But the Russian's wouldn't give Lidia a visa. _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| The first pic reminds me that Rahsaan Roland Kirk used to play several wind intruments simultaneously. But I guess such a thought belongs in the jazz forum ...(His main instruments were tenor, stritch and manzello (sax variations) which Kirk modified himself to accommodate his simultaneous playing technique.) |
