Hey, is just a joke song in the spirit of Borat, or is it song by folk who don't like Jews?
|
A joke that may have backfired, I reckon. Sasha Baron Cohen wrote it to sing in a redneck bar, as a way of bringing to light, and holding up to ridicule, the possibly-submerged attitudes of the rednecks.
I think at least some of the people singing it now are geniune antisemites who like the song because it's catchy and also expresses their sentiments. And the fact that it was written by a Jew--who intended to mock the goyim--makes it even more fun to throw it back in his face.
So, who has taught who a lesson?
Did you know that Yankee Doodle was originally sung by the British redcoats to make fun of the rebellious colonists? _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| The Hutzuls will not be kept down. Ruslana, like Joan of Arc in the days of old, will lead them back to victory: _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| Hutzuls with hummers and laptops will be unstopable. If only they didn't need to ask the Russians for gas (I think that's petrol if you're a limey, benzene if you're whatever). _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| You are privileged to hear the only (and unreleased) recording of the Hutzuls. Not being a fluent Hutzul speaker, I have some difficulty translating the youtube comments: Де ви знайшли такі шедеври? Що ви знаєте про цю групу? Яка їх зараз доля? Буду дуже вдячна за відповідь!"Where did your find this treasure? What do you know about the group? Yaka yikh zaraz dolya? I will duzhe vdyachna za vidpovid!" Гуцули рокс!"Hutzuls rox!" _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| One of the forum rules is that all foreign language posts must be accompanied by a translation (I'm not making this up). But sometimes if you provide a translation, the translation itself violates one of the other rules. It's a catch-22. _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. | Unlike all the scarey-looking heavy metal acts that performed in the West, the Hutzuls were taking a real risk when they performed (as well as when they drove). _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

That is really cool, brah. Not that their dead is cool, but the story of rebelling against the man against all odds is cool. Wow. Heavy Metal bands in America cannot make the claim this group and groups like them can. So how did Heavy Metal music make it's way to these highlanders? Is it a story like the way Spam made it's way into Russia? |

That is very well put. Yes, it happened a lot like the way spam made it's way to Russia. _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

| Well then, thank God for Spam and Metal givin' folks oppressed a taste of freedom and the hope that one day they too will be able to wail on a guitar and eat smeat in a can without fear. May the good Lord shine a light on you, longers for freedom, like the evening sun... |

| Fun fact: The ethnicity of the Hutsuls is controversial. While many, especially in Ukraine, consider them a subgroup of Ukrainians, others consider them a division of the Rusyns (Ruthenians). _________________ I don't do it for the money, babe. I do it to entertain people.-- Susan Boyle

I had to promise not to type anything that could possibly lead to the overthrow of the French government. I'm a man of my word. _________________ This isn't the 'so called' Warbleshinny Mastadon. Over
