Sometimes it turns out to be harder than they thought:

Is Carla Bley a hybrid of some kind? Or is she simply a modern classical composer that can also play jazz?

Alls I know is that White People Should Not Play Jazz. Wynton Marsalis told me so.

Wynton can't play jazz.

Marsalis has also made comments about both jazz and classical music that are so ill informed I could hardly believe they were made by a musician.

He said that Sidney Bechet turned ragtime into jazz by doubling the speed.

He also said that he toured with 6 trumpet concertos because that was about all that had been written, but that violinists were no different, because they only had about 6 violin concertos ready to play at any given time (Heifetz had 90 ready to play at any time).

His playing--whether jazz or classical--I find boring and not very good.

"When Marsalis was nineteen, he was a fine jazz trumpeter ... But he was getting his tail beat off every night in Art Blakey's band. I don't think he could keep up. And finally he retreated to safe waters. He's a good classical trumpeter and thus he sees jazz as being a classical Music. He has no clue what's going on now."

Benny Goodman, who's taken his share of criticism for being too white, too cautious, and for not having a good rhythm section, commented on Marsalis' multiple awards for both jazz and classical recordings by saying "he plays both very badly."

I thought that took a lot of nerve for a white guy that played for my parents, but by then he was too old, sick and cantankerous to worry and fret about what he said.

Is this revenge?
