I was at the doctor's with Torin this weekend when I heard the receptionist say

"she's so innocent, my boss said she's like a Stepford wife with nothing underneath'.....

it seems to me that innocence is not fashionable anymore....

we all want to be ironic and cynical or skeptical....I was wondering which is better in your minds, innocence or experience....and why.....

for my part, I am as pure as the driven snow and innocent as a babe (even though I watched live sex shows when I was 15) - although I know most people think that means foolish......innocent = foolishness to most people

it seems that if you can lie your way out of any situation, your stock goes up.....

my son didn't take after me, he takes after his father......

Innocence is excellent in a child, not so much in a grownup who has to watch out for snakes to protect that child..

Innonce is what we want to get wasted as quickly as we can when we're young, and what we encourage youngers to cherish as soon as we 'passed the bridge'.
The thing is they never tell you when exactly you start crossing the bridge, it's just that one day you suddenly notice you're on the other side.

To be innocent is to be a geek if you're a man. For a man experience equals popularity. For a girl, like myself, you're either an innocent geek or a whore-ish piece of trash: no in between. Girls are frowned upon if they're innocent and they're frowned upon if they're experienced.

So nothing whatsoever has changed between men and women over the last fifty years?

I think intelligence is the third road out you're looking for.
In the end you'll find that you'll be more appreciative for what a person has between his ears than for what he or she has between his or her legs.
Everybody's got something between their legs - the geeks and the Men, the innocent and the experienced - not everybody has much between his or her ears though.

That's a nice thought. Wish there were more evidence of its widespread acceptance. OTOH, maybe you don't need that for it to be accepted among people worth taking notice of.

There's something very vulnerable about innocence which calls for protection, a desire to return to that Edenic state, perhaps. Using it or mocking it or doing something with and to it for your own purposes - not so valuable. (I did music therapy in a hospital for the mentally retarded - the clinical term back then - for about a year. It was a life-changing experience that I wouldn't take back.)
