I'd be perfectly willing to debate the merits of warrantless "wiretapping", if such a thing were actually taking place.

This is an excellent example, because it looks like a simple quibble (land line vs wireless), but it's actually a complex quibble. The Washington Post thought that substituting "eavesdropping" for "wiretapping" would clear it up, but it's much muddier than that.

The bitter truth that many Americans can't face up to is that the gub'mint really doesn't want to hear their endless nattering--but do you realize how difficult it is to not hear it? I wish I could find earplugs effective enough to block out all those screaming cell-phone owners. Mad

JimW tried to get folks to argue syllogistically, and the cornpone-philosopher shtick was just a way of making the syllogistic reasoning more palatable (you know--not so pedantic).

And he never carried a switchblade; he'd just call you a dumbass if he thought you were acting like one on purpose.

Today the newspapers were reporting the things reporters had heard Obama saying on his cell phone during his plane ride. I will give the reporters the benefit of the doubt, and assume they all got warrants before they did their eavedropping.

Or is this one of those cases where it's not illegal because it's the President? Or is it not illegal when the media does it?
