Occasionally, a news story just makes your jaw drop. This was one.

A US Major, a military psychiatrist, shot dead 13 troopers at Fort Hood, Texas; troopers bound for service in Afghanistan.

13 personal and family tragedies.

Or 14, if you count the shooter himself- who was wounded in the incident and is under armed arrest in hospital- and his own family.

But what...WHAT...what was he thinking?

Possibly martyrdom.

It's the fact that this man was a trained psychiatrist...

...who flipped out after listening year after year to horror-stories?

Some people go into psychiatry to work through their own problems.

He attended a mosque and community center in Maryland, north of DC, but
it was not a mosque/center that was ever implicated in any kind of
terrorist recruitment activities. They say he prayed 7 days a week at
Fort Hood.

Reports from those there at the time of the shooting are that before opening fire he yelled "Allah Akbar". That seems a strange thing to yell as you attempt to cold bloodedly murder those you are potentially charged with treating as a psychiatrist. It is equally strange that, if he was traumatized from hearing soldier's horror stories, why then would he put so many through so much horror by opening fire on a crowded room of 300 plus unarmed soldiers?

It has also been reported that he spoke of beheading infidels.

"All Things Considered" reports that Hasan talked at a professional meeting about beheading infidels. A fellow doctor reports:

"He gave a Grand Rounds presentation. . . You take turns giving a lecture on, you know, the correct treatment of schizophrenia, the right drugs to prescribe for personality disorder, you know, that sort of thing. But instead of giving an academic paper, he gave a lecture on the Koran, and they said it didn’t seem to be just an informational lecture, but it seemed to be his own beliefs. That’s what a lot of people thought."
"He talked about how if you’re a nonbeliever the Koran says you should have your head cut off, you should have oil poured down your throat, you should be set on fire. And I said well couldn’t this just be his educating you? And the psychiatrist said yes, but one of the Muslims in the audience, another psychiatrist, raised his hand and was quite disturbed and he said you know, a lot of us don’t believe these things you’re saying, and that there was no place where Hasan couched it as this is what the Koran teaches but you know I don’t believe it. And people actually talked in the hallway afterwards about ‘is he one of these people that’s going to freak out and shoot people someday?"

I don't know, it sure looks suspiciously like he was a religious fanatic and the killings were motivated by that fanatacism. Yeah, it does. Sounds like he was more concerned with the dread of being deployed and having to possibly kill fellow Muslims than he was with killing his own countrymen and fellow soldiers. He made his decision, he killed fellow soldiers, Americans. I hope he gets the death penalty. Hang him.

This isn't a product of America's gun culture.
This doesn't have anything to do with Mooslems in general.
