The Olympic songstress controversy has got me thinking. In the original Blues Brothers movie, Aretha played a waitress. What struck me was how perfect she looked for the part:

That, in turn, reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald's introduction to show biz. Band leader Chick Webb wanted her to sing for the manager of the Savoy Ballroom. The boss took one look at her and said "Oh, Chick, ... no!"
Webb said "Wait! Listen to the voice! You're not supposed to look at her; you're supposed to listen to the voice."
That kind of thing can't do much for a girl's self-esteem.

So now we got deja vu all over again:
