PostSubject: George Harrison   Tue Feb 24, 2009 11:01 pm

Today, George Harrison would have turned 66 years old.

However, there seems to be some confusion as to what day George Harrison's real birthday actually is. Some sites claim it to be February 24th, while others say it is the 25th. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0365600/bio seems to have cleared up this misunderstanding:
Quote:
A good deal of confusion as to his real birthday was solved when a family birth record noted him as being born shortly before midnight around 11:50 P.M.) on February 24th, 1943. He had believed his birthday was February 25th for his entire life
Even today, George Harrison fans celebrate his birthday on the 25th.

So, whichever day it's celebrated, happy birthday to my favourite Beatle! I love you

R.I.P. George Harrison (February 24, 1943 - November 29, 2001)

1943? Shocked

Wouldn't that have made him too young to play in that bar in Hamburg in 1960? Either you have the year wrong or ... I shudder to think that they failed to check a minor's ID. Suspect

George rocks. He's my lucky charm for oral exams. I had my gcse french oral mock on his deathday 2 years back, and a friend who is a big beatles fan gave me a pic of him. Ever since then I have had a picture of him in every language exam Smile

Hmm...interesting. I assume you're referring to the Kaiserkeller night club in Hamburg. Maybe he was allowed to play there because he was just performing, which I guess means that he would technically have been 'working' there. I don't know what the laws are like in America, but over here an underage teen can work in a bar (like as a waiter or even a bartender) just as long as they don't do any drinking themselves. (At least I think that's what the law is, that's was it used to be anyway Question ) Maybe that's what it was like in Hamburg in 1960...

The Beatles violated their contract with the promoter at the Kaiserkeller(Bruno Koschmider) by playing at the rival Top Ten Club. As a result he reported that Harrison was underage to the German authorities and George was deported.

He appeared to me in a dream saying ALL THINGS MUST PASS about a month before he died. Weird.

There was a documentary on about George's life and works the other day on BBC Radio 2, which was narrated by Michael Palin. Enjoyable stuff.
