The Pepper one, even though it's been uncool to like that record too much for a longish time. At some point it became accepted wisdom to say that Revolver is the greatest, but the Pepper one is really much better. One day the Pepper record will be returned to it's former slot of glory.

My favorite forever has been...

“My music classes were such an awful experience that I am pretty sure that every guy in school thought singing was a sissy sport,” he writes. But when John Lennon howls the lyrics to “Please Mr. Postman,” it’s as though he’s “playing football, tackle, no pads.” In the Beatles’ wake, thousands of bands appeared almost overnight; the moptops made music legit for guys and the girls who loved them, not to mention girls who wanted to start their own bands. - Dave Marsh

The design of which has been appropriated by various punters, including...

Pretty serious, considering I'm on a discussion board, but I didn't start liking the Beatles until after they broke up.

A talented boy-band with an excellent producer and some good drugs.

That would have made an excellent album title.

A Hard Day's Night is my current favourite.

I don't have a favourite Beatles album. To pick one out would be akin to breaking the spell. I do have an enormous affection for Abbey Road, partly because it was the last album they would record- and you could sense that, at the time. It's golden, glowing, and loving qualities are all the more cherishable because Abbey Road was taking them so close to the end of the road. I look forward to hearing the re-master, which is, by all accounts, a shimmering thing of beauty.

Then if the specified votes are calculated for today, A Hard Day's Night is in the lead. Which is nice, because it rarely ever is.

Fellow trainspotters.... Contrast & compare. The UK album was the third British release and the first to feature ALL original compositions. In the US, early 1964 has seen the release of Introducing The Beatles, Meet The Beatles and The Beatles' Second Album (busy year for the Fabs). United Artists, who made the film, had the US rights to the title song, and filled the LP out with instrumental movie music. Capitol, their US label, put the rest of the film's songs plus a UK ep, plus German-language versions of "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and created the Something New LP. Here's how the tracks from the UK release were divided up among the US LPs:

UK LP (July 64)
"A Hard Day's Night"
"I Should Have Known Better"
"If I Fell"
"I'm Happy Just to Dance with You"
"And I Love Her"
"Tell Me Why"
"Can't Buy Me Love"
"Any Time at All"
"I'll Cry Instead"
"Things We Said Today"
"When I Get Home"
"You Can't Do That"
"I'll Be Back"

US SOUNDTRACK (US June 64)
"A Hard Day's Night"
"Tell Me Why"
"I'll Cry Instead"
"I Should Have Known Better" (instrumental, George Martin & His Orchestra)
"I'm Happy Just to Dance with You"
"And I Love Her" (instrumental, George Martin & His Orchestra)
"I Should Have Known Better"
"If I Fell"
"And I Love Her"
"Ringo's Theme (This Boy)" (instrumental, George Martin & His Orchestra)
"Can't Buy Me Love"
"A Hard Day's Night" (instrumental, George Martin & His Orchestra)

US SOMETHING NEW (US July 64)
"I'll Cry Instead"
"Things We Said Today"
"Any Time at All"
"When I Get Home"
"Slow Down" (Larry Williams)
"Matchbox" (Carl Perkins)
"Tell Me Why"
"And I Love Her"
"I'm Happy Just to Dance with You"
"If I Fell"
"Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand"

BEATLES 65 (US December 64)
"No Reply"
"I'm a Loser"
"Baby's in Black"
"Rock and Roll Music"
"I'll Follow the Sun"
"Mr. Moonlight"
"Honey Don't"
"I'll Be Back"
"She's a Woman"
"I Feel Fine"
"Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby"

That last one, Beatles 65, picks up one stray track form the UK HDN album and then grabs tracks from the 4th UK LP

BEATLES FOR SALE (UK December 64)
"No Reply"
"I'm a Loser"
"Baby's in Black"
"Rock and Roll Music"
"I'll Follow the Sun"
"Mr. Moonlight"
"Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey"
"Eight Days a Week"
"Words of Love"
"Honey Don't"
"Every Little Thing"
"I Don't Want to Spoil the Party"
"What You're Doing"
"Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby"

Capitol Records held the rest of the tracks from Beatles For Sale until June 65 when they used them to fill out...

BEATLES VI (US June 65)
Medley: "Kansas City"/"Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey"
"Eight Days a Week"
"You Like Me Too Much"
"Bad Boy"
"I Don't Want to Spoil the Party"
"Words of Love"
"What You're Doing"
"Yes It Is"
"Dizzy Miss Lizzy"
"Tell Me What You See"
"Every Little Thing"

How about that? Smile
