| No band has ever produced more A level material without anything substandard. The growth of The Beatles musically between 1963 and 1966 is unparraleled and as astonishing as anything; there's no counterpart for it in music, anywhere. You can't get from "I Want To Hold Your Hand" to "Norweigan Wood" on a tank of gas. EVERY other major band of the era - Stones, Kinks, Animals, Who, Dylan, Yardbirds, etc. - have "Greatest Hits" and "Best Of" collections out by 1966, many of which are brilliant ( High Tide & Green Grass is fantastic). The one exception is The Beatles because a "Best Of" would have had to have been a boxed set of all their LPs to that time. Make up a "Worst of The Beatles" LP and then tell me with a straight face that you wouldn't die happy if that were your band's "Best Of" LP after a 10 year career. |

| They made a 'Worst of'-collection while they were still together. It's called 'Sgt. Pepper's'. I suppose it works okay if you've been on a diet of mushrooms, LSD and plenty of underaged german pussy. Maybe it's telling something to people who still bare Woodstock and such stuff in mind, but to me it's plain crap from opener to closer. 'Obla di obla da' is A-stuff ??? If kindergarden is your public, I suppose it could be. Or maybe if Kurt Cobain had played it. Well, wrecked it. _________________ Le bon sens est la chose du monde la mieux partagée; car chacun pense en être si bien pourvu que ceux même qui sont les plus difficiles à contenter en toute autre chose n'ont point coutume d'en désirer plus qu'ils en ont.

Just tell me you're not one of those twits who defends "Man Gave Names..." as a "children's song."
As for Pepper... the opening is brilliant. "A Little Help" is brilliant, "Lucy in the Sky" is brilliant, "Getting Better" ditto. "Fixing a hole" is lovely, She's Leaving Home" is fucking awesome. "Mr Kite" is great.
"Within You Without You" is the best side 2 track 1 EVER, magnificent song. "When I'm 64" is fine, "Lovely Rita" ditto. "Good Morning" is fanTAStic. The title track reprise if perfect and "A Day in the Life" is among the best songs by anyone ever.
The fact that the LP isn't in their top 5 AND that they were only together for 7 years and none had hit 30 by the end.... Seriosly... Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ, what the fuck do you want? The record failed to cure all known cancers? OK. It has helped people with the painful embarassment of rectal itch so it is solely in the spirit of caring and friendship i suggest you find a copy to shove up your ass. |

| Of the really famous songs, I can't really stand Let it Be. Though that might be because I was forced to sing it in 6th grade during the curtain call for our production of Midsummer's Night Dream. The director was a frustrated semi-professional actor who was addicted to methaqualone and was fired the next year. |

| I much prefer the "Long & Winding Road" WITH the string and choir than without. It just... I don't know... deserves them. And I'm not a huge "Let It Be" (the song) fan either, though I do like the album quite a lot. |

| I didn't even bother listening to Let it Be Naked. I'm glad George didn't release ALL THINGS MUST PASS NAKEDLY. I bet Let It Be Naked is what finally pushed Spector over the edge. |

I don't think all that much of Spector; I rather ike the Glyn Johns "Get Back" version of the LP. I thought the "naked" thing was odd. I was expecting the "Get Back" version. Until thwey finally remaster the CD catalog "Naked" at least sounds good. _________________ Nobody can feel better than the man who is completely taken in.
