I'm tired of this Sgt Pepper backlash. Of course it's in their Top 3 albums.

And all you wankers and tossers who think it's naff to have mellotrons, clarinets, and sitars on an album can go toss-wank off.

How the fuck-stick are Chuck Berry covers and Beep Beep Yeah superior to the mind-shattering brilliance of the Sgt Pepper Gravy Train?

Good post... I'm convinced.

Okay guys, I'm willing to approach this with an open mind.

You know my opinion: Sgt. Pepper's is the most overrated anything produced in the Western 20th century. I think people like this because they were stoned and having their first immature sexual phantasies when this came out.
There's crap I like because in my head it's linked with certain places and times.
It's not the crap I like itself, it's a vague sense of nostalgia that comes with it.

Sgt. Pepper is the most clear example ever of this.
It's utter rubbish, infantile bullshit that nobody would listen to if it had been released by a Hongarian band back in '78. Of course, same thing goes for almost any great record ever released, but still.
Why I actually even own this thing on vinyl is beyond me.

But lots of people seem to think differently.
So, enlighten me!
Show me where this so-called brilliance is hiding on that record.
Give me one snippet of lyric that has even the vaguest touch of sense to it, one chord pattern that is truely sensational, one anything that's on this record that makes it so good.
I'm all ears.

I don't care if you like it or not.

Your not liking it doesn't diminish it one tiny little bit so far as I can see.

And anyway, Tom Waits, the Sex Pistols and the [shudder] Pogues are clearly the most overrated crap that passeth for music of the last 12 centuries, which would include the 20th.

It is a great album, although I can't say that I listen to it all that much.

I think the following are all great songs:

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Getting Better
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds
She's Leaving Home (probably my favourite on the album)
A Day in the Life
Withing You Without You
Fixing a Hole
Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!

That's pretty much the whole album, and the rest of the songs are very good too IMO. The Sgt Pepper reprise is a bit pointless I guess. 'With A Little Help from My Friends' is not a song I'm very keen on, but its still good.... It's just one of those Beatles songs that can get very annoying quickly... Possibly the same for 'When I'm 64'.

Why don't you 'Accuately' try to prove that Help is a better song than Why don't we Do it in the Road?

I listened to Sgt. Peppers once and never felt the need to listen to it again. Maybe I'll put it on again sometime soon...

I've held out posting on this thread for the simple reason that I cannot think of any real dogs in The Beatles catalog. Even Maxwell's Silver Hammer is listenable - yes! I'm not at all saying that everything they realeased was of an exceptional standard - but there's nothing in the stuff that was realeased in their lifespan as a group that I go "That's reallt fucking horrible" to. Maybe a mild "Bleuggh" now and again but not much more.

And for the record: Ob-la-di Ob-la-da is afucking great tune!

The story is that there was an older blck guy in Londin who used "OO BLA DEE" as a kind f catch phrase. I have to think that it was a reference to the 1940s bee-bop Dizzy Gillespie song "In The Land Of Oobladee."

It's a seemingly ordinary August morning, but it will be no ordinary day in the city of Johannesburg. Oprah Winfrey is here to view the new school she has dreamed of for South Africa. Beyond inspecting the handiwork of the builders, she has come to personally select girls for the founding 7th and 8th classes. From poor, troubled backgrounds, these too are no ordinary girls. Many have been hand-chosen by teachers across South Africa for academic excellence and early displays of leadership. On the cusp of adolescence, they are 11, 12, and newly-turned 13 years old.

At 52, Oprah feels her most important work has just begun. The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls—South Africa is an innovative high school whose aim is to discover, teach and inspire young South African girls to become a new generation of leaders. It is the first of several she hopes to build in struggling communities on every continent. She's looking for brave girls, children who have already conquered adversity with a feeling of "I can!" That dream began for her a long time ago.

I'm a helper, but I tend help those that try to help themselves.
And 'Rhoney Boy'? Are you copying me?
You seem so uptight that I doubt that anyone could find your anus without a GPS locator. Cheerio.
